Last month I had the pleasure of meeting Billy Danze and Lil' Fame, two men that go under the name of M.O.P or Mash Out Posse (depending on whether you want to scream it or just say it).

Anyway, these men blazed through Barcelona like a blim crumb through fine cotton but thankfully not departing until we had asked them some stern and heartfelt questions...

Why do you think people need role models? Who were your role models and how did they help you?

Role models? Dude our role models... It's sad to say and we don't want to tell the story because it was a really bad situation, but our role models were drug dealers and killers...They were our role models, so that is how we came through life.

Decent role models are really important because kids don't often get good guidance and people are easy to brainwash these days. You know those stories, when someone at school snaps one day and shoots everyone... Well, nobody gave them the decent guidence they needed and they got brainwashed into thinking that going out and killing people was the right thing to do.

The guidance should all start at home - the role model should start, it should start inside the house -  at home, at home. Because there is so much outside the house there is so much that a kid can be distracted of influenced by - I am my sons role model - I'm a piece of shit but I know he ain't gonna be because i'm on his case!...but you can't coat things in sugar - you gotta tell them what's real - that If you sleep with a girl without a condom - you could possibly die.

What were you given anything when you were young that helped you be who you are today?

Weirdly enough we were given pistols and guns... We had no guidance so you had to take what you had and maneuver it to be the best. We had to walk through life like that, stepping on egg shells and keepin' our heads down... duckin' bullets... Then again it helped us to develop into the men that we are today, and the reason why we educate people the way we educate them is because we don't want young kids to have to go through what we did.

What do you think the young people now lack and what do you think they be given to help them out?

1) Education...  2)Identity... 3) Creativity... People can't think for themselves and they are following others which means they're not being creative. Kids are blind coz they let stuff burn they're eyes, like all the material shit. Everything is more visual nowadays and its not so much about the listener, its more about what people see. So they're following that much more than being creative themselves and getting hands on with things.

How do you think music can educate?

The reality is that music travels way faster than politics, it's faster than ambassadors, and faster than diplomats.. Music travels the planet way quicker, so people learn more through music than they do through any other form of media. So, as long as your keeping the music true, then real people will recognise it...

Has Hip Hop taught you as much as anything else?

Not really, It's had more influence on people that are younger us. When we were younger, we were influenced by older artists like EPMD, but now it just helps us get by.....

Which other artists stand out most to you in a positive light?

Scarface, Kool G Rap...continuously need Rakim, gotta have KRS1... All this is stuff we grew up with, and it's a part of our lives now, you know.

What's have you guy got coming up after this... any projects back in The States?

Well, we've got a busy touring schedule and we've got to get back and complete the new MOP album which we have about 4 tracks to go on.... There is a solo album coming out from Billy Danze called ''Behind Gates'' and watch out for 'Fame n' Glory' from Fame...It's an MOP universe right nowand we've also got this website going... www.webuildhits.com is our give back to the young kids that wanna get in the game who don't have the opportunities that a lot of kids have in the States. In the states you could walk down the block and bump into DJ Premier, Pete Rock and and all those dudes but here its kinda hard to do here so that why we've done it...you can go on and download tracks from Pete Rock, Lil Fame, Dr Period, Dakish, Heatmakers, Ez Mobee and 9th Wonder. We have 25 of the biggest Hip Hop producers in the world, all platinum and grammy winning producers who are giving the kids an opportunity of a lifetime.

Last question... What's the best piece of advice you have ever been given...?

Shut the f**k up when you ain't supposed to be talking! And if you don't you might just get your teeth knocked out your mouth....so you may as well just not say anything.

...Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice... very nice to have met you and keep up the good work! I'm OUT!

Spread The Love
