Toronto born with an Italian Background, Lio plays a mix of faced paced, loopy house that has proved to be a hit with party-goers worldwide. He’s managed the difficult task of turning a love of music and deejaying into a full time career and is currently signed with Dubfire’s SCI+TEC label and his new EP, Keep Grooving, is out on June 21st.
Spending half his year based here in Barca, and the rest in his hometown of Toronto in Canada. Admittedly a homebody, Lio says it was difficult to convince him to make the move across the pond, but the number of friends he’s got over here and the scene with so many djs who call this city home during the summer months he was eventually convinced to make the move.
We caught him about to perform at the SCI+TEC label showcase, which combines the performances from the label’s artists and the visuals of Humanstudio. When asked about his own thoughts on collaboration, he told us that he much prefers working alone and that there are very few artists he feels comfortable working with. In his second year taking part in the Sonar festivities Lio played both at the gallery showcase and the label party at the East Ender Festival on Friday night. As for Sonar, Lio said he loves the vibes and the people that come to the Barcelona during the festival to enjoy the music and the city itself.
His new EP, Keep Grooving, released on vinyl June 21st consists of two tracks, 'Keep Grooving' and 'Turbulence'.
'Keep Grooving' is an upbeat track which has a classic jacking tech-house sound, easily lending itself to becoming part of your summer techno soundtrack while 'Turbulence' shows off Carlo's ability to produce darker, deeper sounds of techno and is evidently influenced by his forthcoming work on the SCI+TEC mix compilation.
Lio's inaugural SCI+TEC mix compilation, 'Past, Present, Future, Vol 2.' ,to be released on CD June 27th, sees Lio utilizing the vast catalogue of tracks available from the label, arranging and mixing in his unique style. Part 1 sees Carlo exploring the 'Past' of the label with Part 2 focusing on the present state of the label while hinting towards what's coming in the future. With remixed tracks from tracks from Dubfire, Davide Squillace, Paul Ritch, SHDWPLAY...it's a beautiful mix well worth checking out.
