This most recent album is a progressive mix which is clean, well-produced, and original. This compilation which is released on the Moda Black label is a deep, intuitive interpretation of a mix of artists associated with the Moda Labels including Tim Green, The 2 Bears, and Hot Since 82. Each track has a connective sound tying the entire compilation together while paying playful homage to the original versions. The music is complimented by innovative artwork and video completing the experience and ensuring a lasting imprint listeners can appreciate and share with friends.
Recently the duo spoke to us about their new project...Read about it below and be sure to watch the teaser video @ the bottom!
Why did the two of you decide to work as a team? What are the greatest challenges you face when working as a pair?
It was just a natural thing really. We were running parties together and both brought something unique, but at the same time we had a similar attitude. Our musical backgrounds are quite different, but that’s always worked in our favour. It also means we can get twice as much done, which helps when you are also run parties, make radio shows, run 2 record labels and produce music, on top of being a DJ.
What's the difference between your two record labels, Moda and Moda Black?
It’s a ying and yang situation, hopefully the two are harmonious and work together. Moda Music is for lighter sounds, like disco and indie, whereas Moda Black is for darker stuff. Sometimes the lines will blur, but that’s the general ethos.
What direction do you see your labels growing in the next five years?
It’s hard to say, as right now all our efforts are on Moda Music and Moda Black. We’ve learnt a lot about how to run a label over the past few years, so we’re trying to use our skills to take it all to the next level.
We definitely want to work closer with artists than ever before. Moda Black will be like a family of artists, all helping each other, all benefiting from our own successes. We’ve always liked that way of working, which is why we’d never sign an artist we didn’t get along with.
3 artists you're listening to right now...
Mia Dora – they’re behind our next EP on Moda Black. It’s absolutely huge and is gonna blow people away. Just watch and see!
Maxxi Sound system – he’s been getting bigger and bigger over the past couple of years but I truly believe this is gonna his year. His stuff is still getting better and his sound is insanely well produced. His remix of Scandal is possibly the Ibiza tune of the Summer.
Plezier – a very talented French producer who’s forthcoming on Moda Music. It was a tough call whether he was Moda Music or Moda Black, as his stuff is so varied. The lead track is gonna be massive, and as it’s quite a feel good piece of music we opted for Moda Music. Coming very soon!
Can you tell us a bit about why you chose the tracks you did to remix on your new compilation for Moda Black?
They’re all either artists we are releasing on the label, or just close friends who really represent the sound of Moda Black. We wanted to make the album a mix of really fresh new names who we believe in, alongside names that we know and love, like Tim Green and Disclosure.
Every single track was made exclusively for the album, which, along with the amazing artwork and packaging, makes it really special.
Where can we catch you this summer?
As well as all the festivals the main place you can find us this summer is at We Love Space in Ibiza. We’re residents there, playing 6 times over the summer, including the We Love birthday with Chemical Brothers and the Closing Fiesta at the end of September. The line-ups there as amazing – each week is like festival. Unmissable if you’re on the island!
