Darius Syrossian speaks to us about all the things that make his music his music. With a solid residency as an integral part of the VIVa Music crew at Sankeys Ibiza this summer there is no doubt about his established position in the house music world. A dj who takes music seriously and evident in his lengthy list of career accomplishments includng a very close working relationship with dj and head of VIVa MUSiC Steve Lawler. The two have just released a compilation album of all exclusive tracks mixed by the two under the VIVa Warriors title, coinciding with their summer residency in Ibiza. Syrossian knows the scene, not only serving as a dj but also hosting the monthly VIVa MUSiC radio show and interviewing fellow djs, getting an exclusive inside scoop on what is going on in the music  world. Catch him live at Mac Arena Mar Sunday August 26th, if you haven’t ventured out to Port Forum for one of the most unique venues in the city this is a great opportunity to do so!

Darius spoke to us recently all about his residency and musical style, read all about it below and take a listen to the track at the bottom...

Why have you chosen to work so closely with Steve Lawler and the VIVa Music team? What aspects of the label and the way it operates integrate with your personal style and work ethic?

The main reason is that Steve Lawler LOVES music, and everything related to that we do for the right reasons. He's been doing it for a long time and still has the same passion for it now, and he runs VIVa like a family, not a just a business. For example a few months ago we DJ’d together in Leeds at Teknicolour on the Thursday, and he also had a gig in Liverpool at Circus in Liverpool on the Saturday, so he had the Friday off. As he lives in Ibiza there was no point in him flying back to Ibiza to come back again the next day. So we hung out, we played music and got on the decks for about 7 or 8 hours. That shows how much he loves the music, and for this reason VIVa is a great label and family to be involved in.

Do you feel the need to search for sources of inspiration when creating new tracks or have you come into your own in terms of a unique musical style?

I honestly think I now have my own sound and I want to carry that on. I know some producers jump ship and make whatever sound is the IN sound at that particular time. I am not about that, I make what I make, and I make what gives that feeling that I love getting when I’m on the dance floor losing it to the music. If people don’t like it or it’s not the 'IN' sound then so be it, but it’s going great at the moment and people are supporting what I do.

Where in the world do you feel most at home and why?

I can be at home anywhere that has like-minded people, I believe it is who you’re with, not where you are at! I could be in an island miles away from nowhere but if I am with like-minded people I am at home. I’m a people person and for me it’s about who I’m doing stuff with, not what I’m doing on my own, I love sharing my experiences and meeting new people all the time.

What can we expect from your performance at Macarena Mar in Barcelona and your residency @ Sankeys Ibiza this summer?

I’m going to go all over the place with my tracks, deep, techy, build it up, techno, drop it, go really low slung and then jack it up again. I never plan a set but always read a crowd. Playing at a venue like that means there are a certain few tracks you can play and a certain few types of tracks you can’t, but I’m sure it will be a good show.

How does your just released summer compilation cd "VIVa Warriors" with Steve Lawler tie in with your residency at Sankeys Ibiza this summer? What kind of sounds can we expect to hear?

I didn't compromise on my VIVa Warriors CD compilation when it came to the mix and what I should play. VIVa Warriors is about the dancefloor, and about deep, jacked up, low slung, emotive dance floor tracks and that’s what I put together. I know cd mixes are normally listened to at home but I didn't want to do a mix that was deep and proggy and melodic just for that reason. It was a VIVa Warriors mix so that’s what I made, and it's the kind of sound that I have played so far at VIVa warriors in Ibiza and will play for the rest of the season.
