Known as "The Day of Lovers," It is compared to Valentine's day and also called La Diada de Sant Jordi. On this day gifts are exchanged between lovers, colleagues and friends - men give their novias roses, and women give their novios a book to celebrate the occasion. Roses are given due to a certain legend associated from the medieval times and books are given due to a more modern commemoration.

Go and have a walk on Barcelona's famous La Rambla where you will see more than the usual flower and book stands. They say that by the end of the day more than 4 million roses and 800 thousand books are sold...
